Initially established in 1986 as a Food Craft Institute, the association got its present title in 1992 under the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. IHM is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Noida in alliance with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior offers undergraduate, diploma and several short term courses in Hunar Se Rojgar Tak and Entrepreneurship programmes, etc. for the aspiring students. Eventually, IHM Gwalior is the most desired institute in central India for the students to study hospitality and the industry to recruit employees from more than 30 companies.

History and Foundation That Led to Enormous Success

The glorious history of IHM has led to the emergence of prominent alumni with a variety of skills and talents who are doing far more than well in their respective industries and are bestowed with core skills like grouping, ingenious thinking, and critical discerning. Institute of Hotel Management is located at the Airport Road, Maharajpura. Gwalior which is a growing suburb in the Gwalior City and also home to numerous various educational institutes in the city.

Build on 11 acres of land containing eleven labs of which six labs are Food Production Labs, one Housekeeping Lab, one Front Office Department, two Training Restaurants, two Computer Labs, one mechanized laundry, one Training Hotel in the campus, smart classrooms and two Bakery labs for hands-on practice by the students, all of which contribute to making IHM one of the most beautiful and spacious campuses across the country. A well-furnished conference room, board room and an air-conditioned soundproof auditorium with 250 seating capacity are also available in the institute to arrange multipurpose events. A fully furnished Training Hotel in the name of Advance Training Centre is in the campus for the hands-on training of students in terms of cleaning and operating and maintaining from time to time to see the actual work in the sample hotel.

Courses That Shape the Academic Outlook

The institute provides courses like Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Hotel Administration which spans for three years and Diploma in Food Production for one year and six months. Additionally, the subsidiary courses included in the institute are; Hunar Se RojgarTak, free of cost entrepreneurial programs in the baking of 150 hours for the needy students and multi-cuisine cooks course for 720 hours. The full-bodied curriculum of the institute has helped the graduates to secure proficient jobs across India and overseas. Also, the students are benefited from the regular field trips and inter-intra competitions to recognize the potentiality and handiness of the learners.

The institute encourages the students to indulge in different activities via arranging visitors such as illustrious motivators, eminent guest speakers on weekly visits, Formation of Youth Heritage Forum by students and staff, industry visit arranged for the students, counseling center for Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) by Family Planning Association of India, an NGO in the campus. Weekly doctor visit, theme lunch/dinner arrangement, Alumni Meet, Paryatan Parv, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Programme, students exchange program with other IHMs, industry-institute interface annually, Swachhata Hi Sewa for awareness generation, training the tourism stakeholders periodically are also some of the events organized in the campus.

Chef Rohit is a notorious personality around the world in the food industry. Starting his journey from his mother’s kitchen to beautifully shaping his talents while working across the world with brands like Oberoi Hotels and Taj Hotels, Chef Rohit had the privilege to represent his country at the World Food 2017 event inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Having learned the skills, Chef Rohit is an inspiration to aspiring students by helping them creatively craft their art.
